Sabrina Niesman therapy is rooted in a relational, validation-forward approach derived from the systems lens of social work. As a dedicated Calgary social worker, she is not here to simply hand you a toolkit and send you on your way. Instead, she is committed to sitting with you in the complexity of your experiences, helping you understand what is truly happening and why, and collaboratively building practical capacity alongside that understanding.
Sabrina utilizes queer disability affirmative therapy and emotion-focused approaches to assist clients in identifying and processing their true feelings, particularly for individuals whose chronic illness, neurodivergence, or trauma history may leave them feeling disconnected from their own internal experience.

Yes. Sabrina's practice is queer and trans-affirming at every level, not just tolerant. She works with queer and trans adults and youth at any stage of identity, including people who are questioning, newly out, or navigating life-long identity in a world that still often fails them
Sabrina works with the full experience of chronic illness, not just the medical facts of it. That includes grief, loss of identity, frustration with systems that dismiss you, the emotional labour of self-advocacy, and learning to trust your own body again. She brings a science-informed understanding of how bodies carry illness alongside relational counselling.
Yes. Sabrina offers kink-affirming support for individuals and couples. She does not pathologize kink or BDSM. For couples and triads, she works with communication, consent, conflict, and intimacy within diverse relationship structures.
Yes. Sabrina works with refugees and newcomers navigating resettlement, systems, and the compounding stress of rebuilding identity and life in a new context. She brings culturally connected care and practical system navigation support alongside emotional processing.
Does Sabrina offer couples therapy?
Yes. Sabrina offers couples therapy for queer, trans, kink-involved, CNM, and otherwise non-traditional relationship structures. She does not assume the goal is to stay together, she assumes the goal is clarity and honesty. Couples sessions are 90 minutes minimum.
Warm, gentle, and relational, but not passive. She will validate your experience fully and also gently reflect patterns back to you when the time is right. Sessions are responsive rather than prescriptive, blending practical tools with emotional processing at a pace that works for your nervous system.
